Uttarakhand is taking a significant step toward technology-led development with the launch of the Information Technology Department’s AI Policy and Data Sharing Policy. The official website and logo of the AI Mission were also unveiled, signaling the state’s commitment to integrating artificial intelligence and data-driven solutions in governance and public service.

Governor Unveils AI Mission Policies and Official Website
Governor Lieutenant General Mr. Gurmeet Singh (retd) inaugurated the draft policies of the Uttarakhand AI Mission-2025 at the Raj Bhavan auditorium. He emphasized that no sector today is untouched by technology and that embracing AI is crucial for fulfilling the aspirations of Uttarakhand’s citizens. Senior officials, mentors from the tech industry, academic leaders, and students attended the launch.
AI Policy Tailored to Mountainous Regions
Mr. Nitesh Jha, Secretary of Information Technology, explained that the policy follows the central government’s AI framework while addressing the unique geographical and developmental needs of the mountainous state. The policy focuses on responsible AI use, innovation, research, and skills development to position Uttarakhand as a national leader in emerging technologies.
Technology as a Catalyst for Sustainable Development
Governor Mr. Gurmeet Singh highlighted that sustainable development is impossible without technological inclusion. He noted that AI adoption can help address challenges such as the digital divide, health, and ethical concerns, thereby contributing to the long-term vision of a developed India by 2047.
Hackathon Udbhavam Awards Recognize Students and Startups
As part of the launch, the first Hackathon Udbhavam was organized across 25 educational institutions, engaging 846 students. The top five student teams—Hash Crew (THDC Institute), Digital Twin (IIT Roorkee), Unlock Aid (Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Institute), Carbon Age (UPES), and Grid Sphere (Graphic Era University)—received Rs. 50,000 each along with medals, certificates, and tablets. Additionally, the top five startups, Bridgit, Bhumicam, Reviz Labs, I-Resonate, and Viji Infotech, were awarded Rs. 50,000 each.
