Uttarakhand is set to accelerate the development of 40 villages along the Nepal border as part of the Central Government’s Vibrant Village Program 2.0. District administrations have been directed to complete a detailed survey of these villages and upload all relevant data to the Vibrant Village Program website.
The survey will gather comprehensive information on each village’s population, area, and the status of ongoing development projects. This data will form the basis for a concrete action plan aimed at fostering holistic growth.
Central Government’s Border Development Initiative
The Vibrant Village Program is a Central Government initiative targeting border villages for accelerated development. In its first phase, 51 villages along the China border in Uttarakhand were included and have seen multiple development projects underway.
With the inclusion of these 40 Nepal-border villages, the program now covers 11 villages in Champawat district, 24 in Pithoragarh district, and five in Udham Singh Nagar district.
Focus on Connectivity and Essential Services
The program emphasizes four key thematic areas: all-weather road connectivity, 4G telecom connectivity, television connectivity, and reliable grid power supply. These core facilities are intended to enhance quality of life and ensure that residents of border villages have access to essential services comparable to urban areas.
Livelihood and Tourism Development to Be Prioritized
According to Ms. Anuradha Pal, Additional Secretary and Nodal Officer for the Vibrant Villages Program in Uttarakhand, the action plan will also focus on livelihood opportunities and tourism promotion. After analyzing the survey results, a state-level strategy will be finalized and submitted to the Union Home Ministry for implementation.
A Roadmap for Sustainable Growth
The program aims to strengthen infrastructure, promote economic activity, and improve social services in Uttarakhand’s border villages. With the systematic survey and subsequent action plan, the government hopes to set a benchmark for inclusive and sustainable rural development.
