Mumbai: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari met Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and his son Anant Ambani at their Mumbai residence on Monday, as the state stepped up efforts to attract fresh private investment and expand industrial activity.
The meeting at Antilia lasted nearly an hour. A senior Reliance Group spokesperson confirmed the interaction, while sources said discussions centred on investment opportunities in West Bengal and the expansion of Reliance’s existing business presence in the state.
Adhikari had earlier announced plans to meet Mukesh Ambani, saying he wanted greater participation from major corporate groups in West Bengal’s development. On September 12, he said Reliance was willing to explore investment opportunities in the state and that he would meet Ambani after the family’s Ganesh Puja celebrations.
Following Monday’s meeting, Adhikari said on social media that he discussed the “immense potential for industrial expansion and employment opportunities” in West Bengal and conveyed that the state was ready to welcome investment.
Bengal Pushes Industrial Expansion
The Ambani meeting comes as the state government seeks to engage large business groups and create an environment for new projects and expansion of existing operations.

- The West Bengal government plans to hand over land to 33 industries before Durga Puja, with their proposals already cleared by the state Cabinet, according to Adhikari.
- The state has been holding discussions with major corporate groups to attract investment and generate employment.
- Reliance’s existing operations in West Bengal and the possibility of additional investments were among the subjects discussed during the Ambani meeting.

The state is also engaging with other major industrial groups. Adhikari is expected to attend an event later this month where Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for a proposed 2,000-bed hospital in West Bengal.
The latest outreach to Reliance forms part of the government’s broader effort to bring industrial investment into West Bengal, with employment generation and expansion of business activity among its stated objectives.
