West Bengal Joins PM Vishwakarma

West Bengal was onboarded for implementation of PM Vishwakarma in May 2026, and the Kolkata event marked the Ministry of MSME’s first programme under the scheme in the state.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said more than 7 lakh applications had been received under PM Vishwakarma in West Bengal.

He said the state government would work with the Ministry of MSME to facilitate implementation and help eligible artisans access the scheme’s benefits.

The Chief Minister also called for stronger outreach and coordination among state agencies for the scheme.

Toolkits, Certificates and Loans Distributed

During the anniversary programme, PM Vishwakarma ID cards and certificates, toolkits and ₹1 lakh cheques were distributed to beneficiaries from West Bengal.

An exhibition showcasing traditional arts and crafts by Vishwakarma artisans was also organised during the event.

More than 2,000 Vishwakarmas and Panchayat functionaries from different districts of West Bengal participated in the programme.

Scheme Focuses on Traditional Artisan Enterprises

Launched on September 17, 2023, PM Vishwakarma is designed to provide support to traditional artisans and craftspeople through a combination of training, tools, credit and market linkages.

The Ministry said the scheme is aimed at supporting artisans as they move from traditional occupations towards enterprise development.

The anniversary programme highlighted the scheme’s guiding motto: “Samman, Samarthya and Samriddhi.”
