Lucknow: In a major decision aimed at student welfare, the Uttar Pradesh government will distribute scholarships to more than 400,000 students tomorrow, September 26, ahead of the usual timeline. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will personally release the scholarships during a special event at the Jupiter Hall of the Indira Gandhi Foundation, marking a significant shift in the government’s scholarship distribution policy.

Previously, these scholarships were disbursed in February-March, but under a new strategic framework, they are now being awarded in September, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Navratri.

Historic Reform in Scholarship System

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Backward Classes Welfare and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Narendra Kashyap, called it a “historic change”. He highlighted that timely disbursement would allow students to benefit when they need it most, potentially aligning with exam preparations and Diwali expenses.

“This move is not only a financial support but also a Diwali gift for students across the state,” said Kashyap.

Scholarship Beneficiaries Rise to 70 Lakh in 2025

The number of scholarship recipients has seen a significant surge. In 2024, around 59 lakh students from Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes (SC), and Scheduled Tribes (ST) benefited from the scheme. In 2025, this number has jumped to 70 lakh, showcasing the government’s commitment to inclusive education.

Joint Departmental Strategy Behind Timely Rollout

The timely execution is the result of a collaborative effort by the Backward Classes Welfare, Social Welfare, and Minority Welfare Departments, all working under the direct guidance of CM Yogi Adityanath.

According to officials, the strategy was devised to ensure financial empowerment, academic continuity, and early assistance to students without delays that typically plagued the scholarship process in previous years.

Key Ministers to Attend Scholarship Distribution Ceremony

The scholarship distribution event will be graced by several prominent leaders including:

  • CM Yogi Adityanath
  • Narendra Kashyap – Minister of State (Independent Charge), Backward Classes Welfare
  • Om Prakash Rajbhar – Minister, Minority Welfare
  • Aseem Arun – Minister of State (Independent Charge), Social Welfare
  • Sanjeev Gond – Minister of State, Social Welfare
  • Danish Azad Ansari – Minister of State, Minority Affairs

A Boost to Educational Welfare in UP

This proactive step comes as part of the state government’s larger initiative to transform Uttar Pradesh into a hub for inclusive and timely educational reforms, where no deserving student is left behind due to financial barriers.

The early scholarship disbursement is expected to significantly aid students in purchasing books, uniforms, and other academic resources, giving them a head-start to the academic year.
