Connecting Kids to Roots, Odisha Emerges as a Natural Leader in Education

Indian Masterminds Stories

In recent yeras, the education system in Odisha has witnessed remarkable advancements with better infrastructure and emphasis on the enhancement of educational quality. The state is in fact showing the way to others.
The ST & SC Development Department directly oversees 1735 schools across the state, educating nearly 4.2 lakh ST & SC students. More than 5 lakh ST/SC students enjoy hostel accommodations in 5834 hostels, with a majority of 60% being girls.

Besides, providing these facilities, now the state government is taking steps towards an integrated education system. An education system which does not derail but connect to the roots. A system which can be a tool in preserving the indigenous population and their culture. An initiative has been launched to introduce multilingual education in primary classes. This includes the appointment of teachers specializing in tribal languages to provide a comprehensive and inclusive educational experience.

Has this been useful? Ms. Roopa Sahoo, Secretary to CM, Odisha, and Commissioner cum Secretary of SC/ST development, tells us, also explaining how Samhati program addresses language challenges faced by tribal students whereas with Anwesha, the untapped potential of children from marginalized backgrounds is being cultivated.
