Dhruman S. Nimbale, an IPS officer who had lately made headlines for his many transfers while serving as SSP in various Punjabi districts, was transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday. Dinkar Gupta, a DGP-rank officer from the Punjab cadre, is in charge of the NIA.

In eight years, there have been 18 transfers, and Nimbale was regarded as a leading authority on illegitimate mining. By moving him to Muktsar just one week after he had conducted one of the largest operations against illicit miners, the AAP administration had courted controversy in April.

Nimbale served as SSP Tarn Taran for a total of five months before this transfer. Before that, he had been SSP Moga for two months. Before stepping down from the position a few days ago, he was still SSP Muktsar. The officer announced his recruitment to the NIA on Twitter on Friday.

More than 100 FIRs about sand mining were ordered by him while serving as the SSP Tarn Taran, Moga, and Hoshiarpur. As trucks extracted sand from Ferozepur to Tarn Taran while Nimbale was in Tarn Taran, he began a campaign against illicit mining.

He witnessed mining work in Moga from the riverbed, which was prohibited during the monsoon (June 1 to August 31). 13 FIRs were filed by Nimbale, who also seized equipment worth Rs 4 crore. He arrested illicit sand miners in Hoshiarpur and recovered Rs. 1.53 crore in cash.
