Former Field Director of Kaziranga National Park, Jatindra Sarma, IFS (retired) is passionate about plants and mushrooms. This passion has led him to discover many medicinal plants and a variety of mushrooms in the forests of the Northeast.
It had become a habit for him to wander deep inside forests and hills wherever he used to get posted in Assam to quench his thirst for documenting rare species. This search for something rare growing silently inside dense jungles, hidden away from the world, has resulted in him bringing out several books that are considered as treasure houses by researchers.
In view of this, immediately after his retirement, the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India, appointed him as the Chairman of State Level Expert Appraisal Committee, Assam.
In this video interview to Indian Masterminds, Mr. Jatindra Sarma takes questions about his research work and explains with live demonstration some of the rare species discovered by him and named after his daughter, wife, and friends.
