Instilling Charity In Nalgonda

In a first of its kind initiative, Mr. Prashanth Jeevan Patil IAS, District Collector Nalgonda in Telangana asked his well-wishers to give him blankets and bedsheets, instead of flowers and bouquets as part of New Year wishes. These items are now being distributed among orphanages and old-age homes to ward off the biting January cold.

Every year on occasions like New Year, it has been an ongoing practice among the administrators, political leaders and others of exchanging gifts, flowers and bouquets. This year though, an IAS officer came up with an alternative- one that would benefit the poor and the needy. So, the District Collector (DC) of Nalgonda in Telangana, Mr Prashant Jeevan Patil asked his fellow employees and political leaders to dispense with flowers and other such items and give him blankets and bed sheets.

The idea clicked immediately, and all these items are being handed over to the homeless and poor people, so as to safeguard them from the cold.

THE INITIATIVE

Acting upon the appeal of the district collector, several officers from gazetted and non-gazetted associations conveyed their new year wishes by giving blankets and bed sheets to the DC

The leaders from the Non-gazetted Officers Association have given 93 blankets and 193 bedsheets during the programme held by Mr. Patil, whereas the Gazetted Officer’s Association leaders gave 60 bed sheets. These bedsheets given by the gazetted officer’s association will be further distributed to the old age homes. The programme was also attended by Additional District Collectors V Chandrasekhar and Rahul Sharma.

In a short span of time, a total of 110 blankets and 220 bedsheets were collected which were further given to orphanage and old age homes in the district.

ADDRESSING THE OFFICIALS

During the programme, Mr. Patil also addressed the officials and the employees who were present there and asked them to bring more power and commitment towards their work. He asked them to focus on the overall development of the district, by effective implementation of the government schemes and development projects.

Keeping in mind the Covid-19 scenario and the people who have been largely affected by it, Mr. Patil appealed to each employee to voluntarily buy handloom products from the weavers so as to support them for a better cause. Not only this, he also asked every district officer to adopt one government or a residential school and pay a monthly visit there. The purpose of this initiative is to improve the infrastructure of the schools and to provide an ownership to the officials. This would lead to timely redressal of the issues prevailing in the schools.

Lastly for the progress of the district, Mr. Patil asked the official to make Nalgonda the top district in the state in setting up Rythu Vedikas and Palle Prakruthi Vanams. Rythu Vedika is an exclusive place for the farmers where they can discuss about the crops, pricing and other related issues. Palle Prakruthi Vanams areforest-cum-parks which are being set up in each village of the district.
