The celebration kickstarted on 11 September at Amity University and will go on till 13 September. Leading up to this momentous occasion, five successful roadshows were held in Jaipur, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Amritsar to publicize the event and inform the travel trade.

Indian Masterminds spoke exclusively with IAS officer Rakhee Bhandari, Principal Secretary, Department of Tourism, Punjab, to know more about the summit.

 A SUPERLATIVE INITIATIVE

The Punjab Tourism Department was able to plan and set into motion the entire tourism summit and travel mart in less than a month under the leadership of Ms. Bhandari.

For the first time, Punjab is being portrayed as a highly dynamic and growth-oriented state that is transforming itself into a vibrant economy with a strong focus on industrial development and sustainable growth.

“The event aims to depict Punjab as a shining example of India’s growth story, opening new vistas of investment opportunities and tourism development,” shared the officer.

CAPTIVATING FEATURES

The Tourism Summit and Travel Mart will offer a 360-degree immersive experience into Punjab’s culture and history. Anamorphic art, where 2D paintings come to life in stunning 3D illusions, will provide a visual treat.

Renowned international and domestic investors, as well as stakeholders from the entertainment industry, are attending the event to learn more about the dynamic growth-filled environment that the Punjab government promises to potential investors.

Moreover, members of the Punjabi diaspora from across the world have expressed keen interest and enthusiasm for the first-ever Punjab Travel Mart.

EMPOWERING WOMEN IN TOURISM

In a special initiative to increase women’s engagement in the travel industry, key travel entrepreneurs, speakers, and NGOs promoting women-oriented businesses have been invited to participate in the event. Plans are in place to provide training and skill development programs for women interested in various roles within the tourism sector.

“We are keen to empower and involve women in the tourism industry, recognizing the positive impact it will have on both the industry and the overall socio-economic development of Punjab,” Ms. Bhandari told Indian Masterminds.

SHOWCASING PUNJAB’S DIVERSITY

For the first time, familiarization trips are being organized for all travel trade buyers, featuring curated trips to Amritsar, Anandpur Sahib, Kapurthala, and Pathankot to showcase the diversity and variety of Punjab’s tourism offerings.

“Visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Punjab’s vibrant culture through interactive exhibits, iconic photo opportunities, and thematic zones catering to specific interests,” shared Ms. Bhandari.

CUTTING-EDGE SUMMIT SESSIONS

The Punjab Tourism Summit and Travel Mart will feature a state-of-the-art curved LED screen for informative and engaging summit sessions, bringing the latest trends and insights in the travel industry. Six knowledge sessions will delve into subjects of current interest, including Wellness Tourism, Farm and Eco Tourism, Amritsar as a Wedding Destination, Hinterland Travel, Culinary Tours, and more.

“Speakers have been carefully chosen from among the best domain experts in their particular areas of expertise. Captivating performances and cultural displays are planned for all days of the event, allowing visitors to experience the beats of traditional music and the energy of folk dances that make Punjab come alive.”

VISION FOR PUNJAB’S TOURISM

Ms. Bhandari expressed her enthusiasm for the event, emphasizing its potential to set a benchmark among Indian states in promoting tourism and travel. She also highlighted the government’s initiatives, including the Invest Punjab initiative and other fiscal incentives, aimed at maximizing employment opportunities for women and youth through tourism.

“The Travel Mart is an initiative to bring together travelers, tour operators, and enthusiasts to explore the hidden gems of Punjab,” she told Indian Masterminds.

The first-of-its-kind Punjab Tourism Summit heralds Punjab’s dynamic transformation, promising growth, empowerment, and cultural richness, beckoning travelers to discover its hidden treasures.
