Indian Masterminds Stories

A civil servant works in a never ending circle of development and protecting his people. Their continuous efforts to uplift their respective regions is the reason why we get to observe new and different projects, initiatives, and growth every now and then. They do it all. Their effort to bring light into people’s lives and guide them on the righteous path is never-ending. And for that, we praise and salute them.

From converting his native village into India’s first smart village to bringing back precious wildlife in his district; from already preparing to protect children during Covid 3.0 to conserving the environment with his people and to preparing oxygen bed facility in a week during crisis, our officers are no less than the superheroes we get to see only in movies.

Therefore, Indian Masterminds presents its top six stories from June 2021 portraying real life heroism by bureaucrats.

WELCOME TO DHANORA- INDIA’S FIRST SMART VILLAGE

Welcome to Dhanora – a smart village situated in the heartland of Chambal in the Dhaulpur district of Rajasthan. Upon visiting it, you’ll find clean roads laced with lush green trees, solar street lights, brick homes painted in vibrant colors, a skill development center, a meditation center, and even a public library! But Dhanora didn’t always look like that. Prior to becoming a smart village, its chief features were road-less passages, the smell of open defecation looming in the air, and a less than healthy and hygienic look that characterize so many of India’s villages. What changed this? The efforts of IRS officer Mr. Satyapal Singh Meena and his team.

The picturesque district of East Garo Hills of Meghalaya is spread over an area of 1517 sq. km. The climate here is typical of the tropical region: hot and humid in summers and cool in winters. Now Meghalaya, as all of us know, receives one of the highest rainfall in the country. But not many know that the state is experiencing a gradual decline in its groundwater for the last many years. To fight this issue and conserve water in a better way, the Deputy Commissioner, that is IAS officer Mr. Swapnil Tembe made use of Government schemes and solved the problem of water scarcity in the district.
