Born in the little known Parsa village in Akola district of Maharashtra, 2006-batch IPS officer Shivdeep Lande became famous in another state for his dynamic style of working. This state is Bihar, and even children of the state know this uniformed man for his exploits against criminals. In Patna and other districts where he was posted, people refer to him as the ‘dabangg officer’. Indian Masterminds takes a look at the work profile of the officer during his stint in Bihar to find out what made him so popular among the masses.

SUPER COP

The ‘dabangg officer’ is especially popular among the youths of Bihar who dream of becoming an IPS officer like him. He finds appreciation among the women and girls, too, as the safety of the fairer sex is a matter close to his heart. When in Bihar, Mr. Lande shared his mobile number publicly and said clearly that his number would be operational 24 hours and one can call without hesitation whenever needed.

He had his own signature style of operating that made him stand out from the rest. At times he would be seen wearing a dupatta and catching an accused, while at other times, he would be seen standing in front of the motorcycles of people riding without helmets. He started being identified as the Super Cop, then!

SAFETY OF GIRLS

Once, a group of young boys used to sit and stare at the girls of Magadha Mahila College, Patna, when they arrived for their classes. When the matter reached the Mr. Lande, within an hour, it was solved. He immediately reached the spot and the boys disappeared hurriedly from the scene. Not a single boy from the group was thereafter seen in that spot. Such is the fear the officer evoked!

The officer didn’t just stop there. He himself went inside the college and assured the girls that they from then onwards, they should feel free to come and go as they like. He also advised them to shift their focus to studies now and study hard to do well in life. He also asked them to call on his number whenever they felt unsafe. With such small but powerful steps, he managed to win the confidence and trust of the girls and women, too!

FAN FOLLOWING INCREASED

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Mr. Lande’s status in Bihar was no less than a superstar! Girls were smitten by him. They used to take his autographs and were always eager to shake hands with him. In whichever district he went, people were bowled over by his bravery, honesty, and great work. And his fan following kept on increasing!

CANDLE MARCH

Officers getting transferred out of a district is routine and people also accept it as such. But, when Mr. Lande got transferred from Patna to Araria, people of Patna took out a candle march in the city for the transfer order of their ‘Singham’ to be stayed.

His mobile phone was flooded with calls and SMS after he got transferred. It was also reported that more than thousand girls pleaded to him to stay on in Patna. Such is the power of IPS officer Shivdeep Lande’s personality! He left his mark wherever he got posted in Bihar. His way of policing with bravery and honesty also influenced other officers positively in the state.

SOCIAL WORKER TOO

No doubt Mr. Lande’s stint in Patna created the image of a ‘dabangg’ police officer. However, he is very humble in his personal life. Reportedly, he also actively involves himself in social work. It is said he had arranged mass marriages of many underprivileged girls.

RETURNS TO BIHAR

Just as the people of Bihar could never forget him, similarly, Mr. Lande, too, could never get Bihar and its people out of his mind, so deep is his attachment to the state. So, after nearly five years of his service in Maharashtra Police, Mr. Shivdeep Lande has once again returned to Bihar, this time as DIG of Kosi range, Saharsa.
