When two police officials got out of turn promotion to become SP in Gujarat, it raised eyebrows within the department and curiosity among the public because this is a rare occurrence. In Gujarat Police history, only seven police officials have received such an honour of out of turn promotion. And two from among the lucky seven received their promotion order very recently while serving in the Deputy SP rank. They are KK Patel and Bhavesh Rojiya, who made news when the state government announced their out of turn promotion and elevation to the rank of SP due to their ‘best track records and stupendous career achievements’.
Both the officers played a big role in Gujarat ATS in catching wanted criminals. By promoting these officers, the Home Department has given a clear message that the government definitely gives importance to performing officers who are assets to the state.
K K Patel is a 1993-batch sub-inspector, while Bhavesh Rojiya is a 2004-batch sub-inspector of Gujarat police. They both worked together in Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and busted many drug rackets within and outside the state. They worked together in many terrorism cases as well and nabbed culprits even in mid-sea operations.
Indian Masterminds interacted with Mr. Rojiya and Mr. Patel to know more about their career and achievements.
BHAVESH ROJIYA
Last year, Gujarat ATS DySP Bhavesh Rojiya’s name surfaced in news when he seized 920 kg drugs worth INR five thousand crore. He and his team busted a big racket. Later, he was honoured with DG’s disc and commendation certificate.
Mr. Rojiya hails from Vadodara and joined Gujarat Police in 2004 as PSI (Police Sub Inspector). After that, he got promotion as per rules and reached to the post of DySP (Deputy Superintendent of Police). He is considered to be very hardworking and an honest police officer in Gujarat police.
He worked in Gujarat ATS for 6.5 years. His most memorable case was nabbing the killers of eye witnesses in the high profile Asaram Bapu case.
He said, “Eye witnesses related to that case were being killed in different places across the country. We caught the main culprit. At that time, I was posted in crime branch, Ahmedabad.”
At the time of his promotion to SP rank, he was performing the responsibility of ACP in Surat city. He got posted here from Gujarat ATS, almost one and half year before. But, after the out of turn promotion by Gujarat government, he has now been posted as DCP Crime Branch in the same city.
Mr. Rojiya had also solved the case of the Gandhinagar serial killer and had seized huge consignments of drugs many times. In these cases, he detained Afghanis, Pakistanis and Iranians. In one such operation, he nabbed the culprit from mid sea.
K K PATEL
Like Mr. Rojiya, Mr. K K Patel has also had an illustrious career run. In his last posting before the promotion, he was working as Deputy SP in Gujarat ATS. He is from Ahmedabad. He joined Gujarat Police in 1993 as PSI. After this, he got promotion as per rules and reached the Deputy SP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) rank.
He is known as a courageous police officer who was involved in cracking many terror cases. He played an important role in arresting the accused involved in the Ahmedabad blast case, ISIS terrorists, members of ISKP Khorasan Province, Akshardham attack case, and Ahmedabad serial blast case.
He said, “I have been performing my duty with full zeal and integrity till now. Soon, I will retire. But, before that, I want to give my best to the service.”
It is expected that the morale of the entire police force will be boosted by this out of turn promotion to these two officers who have made Gujarat Police proud with their achievements and selfless service.
