In a major reshuffle five Delhi Police districts got new deputy commissioners. The recent order was issued on Thursday. Joy Tirkey will handle the riots-hit northeast district. He served in the Crime Branch for several years and handled various sensitive cases, including the 2020 Jawaharlal Nehru University violence.
The northeast district was being headed by 2011-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Sanjay Kumar Sain. Mr. Sain will now take charge of the central district, replacing 2010-batch IPS officer Shweta Chauhan. While Chauhan has been appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police (General Administration).
Jitendra Kumar Meena, a 2012-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest). While Usha Rangnani, will take over as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Deo has taken charge of the southeast district. Whereas Esha Pandey has been transferred to the traffic unit.
Devesh Kumar Mahla, a 2012-batch IPS officer, has been transferred to the IGI Airport unit from the outer north district. Ravi Kumar Singh has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North). Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Ankit Kumar Singh is now the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), the order stated.
