1988 batch senior IPS officer Rashmi Shukla has been appointed as the Director-General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) DG SSB. She has been the former head of the Maharashtra Intelligence Department.
She came into limelight in erstwhile government of Uddhav Thackeray in a case related to phone tapping. However, the Eknath Shinde government rejected the demand to prosecute him.
SSB is the border-guarding force deployed along Nepal and Bhutan border.
Ms. Shukla was posted with the Central Reserve Police (CRPF). She was heading the State Intelligence Department in Maharashtra Police when the phones of Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and Nationalist Congress Party leader Eknath Khadse were allegedly tapped in 2019.
As far as phone tapping matter case is concerned, Deputy CM of Maharashtra Mr. Devendra Fadnavis had said that the officer who was actually responsible under the law is not Rashmi Shukla. In this case, also only some photocopies were kept as evidence. They cannot be prosecuted just for harassing someone.
Rashmi Shukla was accused of tapping the phones of Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut and NCP leader Eknath Khadse. A complaint was also lodged in this connection at the Colaba police station.
