Manipur: CRPF IG Rajiv Singh Transferred to Violence Hit State, Likely to Get Key Post

In an office memorandum issued from the Ministry of Home Affairs, it stated- Inter-cadre deputation of Rajiv Singh, IPS, presently working as IG, CRPF, from Tripura cadre to Manipur cadre for a period of three years.

After various meetings held by Union Home Minister Amit Shah who landed in Manipur late on May 29 evening, 1993 batch senior IPS officer and inspector general of CRPF, Mr Rajiv Singh has been sent to Manipur and is likely to be appointed to a key post to handle the prevailing security situation in the state.

Mr Rajiv Singh is from the Tripura cadre and was posted as IGP CRPF.

In an office memorandum issued from the Ministry of Home Affairs, it stated- Inter-cadre deputation of Rajiv Singh, IPS, presently working as IG, CRPF, from Tripura cadre to Manipur cadre for a period of three years.

The transfer comes at a time Manipur is seeing ethnic conflict since violence broke out in the state on May 3, the toll of which has climbed to 80.

The ministry also directed the CRPF to relieve Singh immediately to enable him to take up his new assignment.

Sources said Singh is likely to be given a key responsibility for handling the prevailing situation in Manipur.

Soon after the violence broke out in the state on May 3, the central government appointed former chief of the CRPF Kuldiep Singh as a security adviser to the Manipur government.

As per reports, one among Rajiv Singh and Ashutosh Sinha is to be the next DGP of the Manipur cadre.

Home Minister Amit Shah has already met the ministers and the Governor of the state, which is being ravaged by ethnic violence for nearly a month.

“The undersigned is directed to refer to the subject cited above and to convey the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet for the Inter-cadre deputation of Shri Rajiv Singh, IPS (TR:93), presently working as IG, CRPF, from Tripura cadre to Manipur cadre for a period of three years from the date of joining, in relaxation of the policy as a special case in the public interest. It is therefore requested to relieve Rajiv Singh, IPS (TR: 93), IG, CRPF immediately for enabling him to take up his new assignment in Manipur,” stated the office memorandum.
