In a significant move aimed at enhancing security and administrative efficiency, the Manipur government has transferred 14 police officers, including the superintendents of police (SPs) of two key districts. The reshuffling comes as the state continues to grapple with rising security challenges, including ethnic unrest, insurgency, and extortion linked to militant groups.

The Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department issued an official notification on Tuesday outlining the transfers, which affect critical law enforcement positions across the state.

Key Transfers Include:

  • Jiribam SP Shaikh Mohd Zakir has been reassigned to the position of SP in Kakching district, while Priyadarshini Laishram, previously the SP of Kakching, will now take charge as the SP of Jiribam.
  • Gaurav Dogra, the former Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Yairipok, has been appointed as the SDPO of Singjamei.
  • Abhinav, Assistant Commandant of the 1st Manipur Rifles, has been given additional duties as the Additional SP for Kangpokpi district.
  • Akoijam Sadananda Singh has been designated as the new Additional SP Traffic for Imphal East, while Keisham Bojoukumar Singh will assume the role of Additional SP Vigilance.
  • Rattana Ngasepam has been appointed as the Additional SP for CID (Special Duty).

These changes come at a time when the state is witnessing frequent clashes between security forces and insurgent groups, prompting the government to take strategic measures to deploy officers in vulnerable regions. The reshuffle is seen as part of the government’s broader efforts to improve law enforcement capabilities and stabilize the security situation in the state.

Manipur has been under the strain of escalating ethnic violence and insurgency, with militant outfits continuing to target local businesses and residents for extortion. The state’s law enforcement is now tasked with confronting these challenges more efficiently, ensuring the safety of the public and curbing militant activities.

In a related development, security forces have apprehended three individuals, including a cadre of the banned PREPAK-Pro militant outfit, on charges of extortion in Kakching and Imphal East districts. Police officials confirmed the arrest of a member of the outfit on Tuesday from Aihang village in Kakching, who is accused of extorting businesses and residents in the Wangoo Chairel and Pangaltabi areas.

As the state continues to navigate these security challenges, the reshuffling of police officers is seen as a crucial step in reinforcing the law enforcement apparatus and addressing the growing security concerns across Manipur.
