Bhopal: In a strong push towards sustainable infrastructure and energy-efficient irrigation, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the adoption of solar energy in the functioning of Narmada Valley projects. Chairing the 267th meeting of the Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) at Samatva Bhavan, CM Yadav called the Narmada River the lifeline of Madhya Pradesh, underlining the need to ensure 100% utilization of its water for the benefit of the state.
“The use of solar energy in water lifting systems can significantly reduce electricity expenditure. Farmers should also be encouraged to adopt solar-based irrigation,” said Dr. Yadav.
Focus on Energy, Irrigation Expansion, and Religious Tourism Infrastructure
The Chief Minister highlighted the irrigation and power generation gains made under the Narmada Valley Development Authority and advocated for green energy integration in all future projects to boost cost-efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing and proposed lift irrigation projects, including:
- Shaheed Ilap Singh Micro Lift Irrigation Project (Harda)
- Sendhwa and Niwali Micro Lift Projects (Barwani)
- Dhar Lift Micro Irrigation Project
- Maa Reva Lift Irrigation Project (Dewas)
Discussions included technical evaluations of the Sleemanabad Tunnel, and proposals for time extensions of multiple under-construction projects such as:
- Dobi Irrigation Project
- Bhikangaon Binjalwada Micro Irrigation Project
- ISP-Parvati Link Project
- Khalwa Lift Micro Irrigation Project (Khandwa)
Green Light for Construction Work and New Approvals
Significant resolutions were taken regarding the initiation of construction in the ISP reservoir and command area of the Upper Narmada Project, and the Morand Ganjal Dam and Pressurized Irrigation Project.
The Authority also discussed new administrative approvals for several proposed micro-lift irrigation projects including:
- Vijayraghavgarh
- Gunaur
- Jhirnya Extension
- Badadev Chargawan
- Khedi Buzurg (Dhar)
Plan for Riverfront Development at Cultural and Religious Sites
CM Yadav directed officials to develop an action plan for the construction of ghats along the Narmada River at religious, social, and tourist locations, integrating both utility and heritage promotion objectives. This is part of a broader strategy to enhance public access and cultural engagement with the sacred river.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Rajoura, senior officer Manish Rastogi, and other key members of the NVDA.
