New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointments of 2014-batch Himachal Pradesh-cadre IAS officer Nipun Jindal and 2012-batch Haryana-cadre IAS officer Ajay Singh Tomer to key positions in the Central Government.
According to notifications issued on July 16, 2026, Nipun Jindal has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), while Ajay Singh Tomer has been named Director in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare.
Nipun Jindal Appointed Deputy Secretary in DEA
Nipun Jindal (IAS:2014:HP) has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairsunder the Ministry of Finance for a period of four years.
Before his Central deputation, Jindal was serving as Director, Digital Technologies and Governance, Government of Himachal Pradesh, a position he has held since August 2025.
A medical professional-turned-civil servant, Jindal holds an MBBS degree from the University of Rohtak and an MS in Orthopaedics from Rajasthan University, Jaipur.
During his administrative career, he has served in several important positions, including:
- Managing Director
- Mission Director
- Special Secretary
- Deputy Commissioner
- Various district and state-level administrative assignments
Jindal has also been recognised for innovation in governance. Among his notable honours are:
- National Award from the Election Commission of India for the IT application ‘e-Katch’.
- Civil Services Award 2021 conferred by the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
Ajay Singh Tomer Named Director in Agriculture Ministry
Ajay Singh Tomer (IAS:2012:HY) has been appointed as Director in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare for a tenure of five years.
Prior to his appointment, Tomer was serving as Deputy Commissioner, Ambala, a post he assumed on January 31, 2025.
An engineering graduate from IIT Kharagpur, Tomer has held a wide range of administrative assignments during his career in the Haryana cadre.
His previous postings include:

- Administrator

He was also awarded an appreciation certificate for leading Sirsa district to achieve Open Defecation Free (ODF)status under the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM).
Strengthening Key Central Ministries
The appointments come as part of the Centre’s ongoing effort to strengthen senior-level administration across ministries through the induction of experienced IAS officers on Central deputation.
While Nipun Jindal will contribute to policy formulation and financial administration in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ajay Singh Tomer will take on a key role in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, supporting programmes related to agricultural development and farmers’ welfare.
