New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved key extensions in senior government appointments, reinforcing continuity in the leadership of India’s atomic energy and investigative agencies.
Ajit Kumar Mohanty Gets Six-Month Extension as DAE Secretary and AEC Chairman
Dr. Ajit Kumar Mohanty, Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), has been granted an extension of six months, effective from October 11, 2025.
Dr. Mohanty, a renowned nuclear physicist, has been serving in these dual capacities, playing a pivotal role in steering India’s atomic energy policy, scientific research, and strategic initiatives.
Ashwin Shenvi’s Tenure as Joint Director, CBI Extended by One Year
The ACC has also approved a one-year extension for Ashwin Shenvi, IPS officer of the 2006 Haryana cadre, currently serving as Joint Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). His extended tenure will begin after the completion of his current term on September 6, 2025, marking a total of six years in the role.
Shenvi has been instrumental in overseeing key investigations and enhancing inter-agency coordination within the CBI.
Continuity in Critical Institutions
The extensions reflect the government’s intent to ensure leadership continuity in sensitive and strategic domains such as atomic energy and central investigation, particularly during a period of rapid scientific advancement and heightened institutional scrutiny.
