New Delhi/Raipur: Chhattisgarh is gearing up to host the prestigious all-India conference of Director Generals of Police (DGPs) and Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) from November 28 to 30, marking the first time the high-profile event will be held in the state capital, Raipur. The three-day conference will bring together top police officials and security administrators from across the country to deliberate on critical issues related to national security and internal law enforcement.
Inauguration and Valedictory Session
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the conference, while the valedictory session may see the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, depending on his schedule. This will be the Prime Minister’s second visit to Chhattisgarh within a month, following the State Foundation Day celebrations on November 1.
Focus on Internal Security and Naxal-Affected Areas
The conference is set to address a wide range of security-related issues, including counter-terrorism, cyber security, drug control, border management, and strategies to combat Left Wing Extremism (LWE), commonly known as Naxalism. According to officials, this year the deliberations will place special emphasis on Naxal-affected regions, particularly the Bastar area, where joint operations by state police and central forces have yielded notable results. Plans and strategies to further strengthen security in these sensitive zones are expected to be key discussion points.
Platform for Knowledge Sharing and Professional Collaboration
The annual conference provides a unique interactive platform for senior police officers to share professional practices, operational experiences, and innovative strategies to enhance law enforcement across India. It also allows discussions on infrastructural requirements, welfare initiatives, and the challenges faced by police personnel in crime control, internal security management, and maintaining law and order.
Historical Context and Significance
Since 2014, Prime Minister Modi has taken a keen interest in the DGP-IGP conference, encouraging its organization across different states to promote knowledge exchange and improve national security frameworks. The event has previously been hosted in locations including Guwahati (Assam), the Rann of Kachchh (Gujarat), Hyderabad (Telangana), Tekanpur (Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh), the Statue of Unity (Kevadia, Gujarat), Pune (Maharashtra), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), New Delhi, and Jaipur (Rajasthan).
Awards and Recognition
The conference also includes the conferment of the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service, recognizing exemplary contributions to law enforcement and public safety.
Aiming for Strategic Security Solutions
The Chhattisgarh edition of the conference aims to strengthen coordination between state and central police forces, share actionable insights on countering Naxal and terrorist threats, and ensure that policing strategies remain effective, adaptive, and community-focused. By emphasizing collaboration and professional excellence, the event seeks to reinforce India’s internal security architecture in the face of evolving challenges.
