Andhra Pradesh Clears IPS Promotions Across 1996–2013 Batches, Up to DGP Rank, Effective January 1, 2026

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has issued promotion orders for several Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from batches ranging between 1996 and 2013. The promotions, which will take effect from January 1, 2026, cover elevations to various senior ranks including Director General of Police (DGP), Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Inspector General of Police (IGP), Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), and Selection Grade.

The orders include in-situ promotions for officers continuing in their current postings, as well as proforma promotions for officers serving on central and inter-state deputation.

1996 Batch: Promotions to Director General Rank

From the 1996 batch, Shankha Brata Bagchi, who is currently serving as the Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner, has been promoted to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP). He will continue in his present assignment on an in-situ basis.

In a separate order, Bhavana Saxena, who is presently on central deputation, was granted a proforma promotion to the rank of Director General of Police, effective from the same date.

2001 Batch: ADGP Promotion on Proforma Basis

For the 2001 batch, Vineet Brijlal, who is also on central deputation, has been accorded a proforma promotion to the Above Super Time Scale (Level 15) in the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP). This promotion will also take effect from January 1, 2026.

2008 Batch: Inspector General Rank Elevations

The government has also notified promotions for officers of the 2008 batch to the Super Time Scale (Level 14) in the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP).

The following officers have been promoted on an in-situ basis

  • Gopinath Jatti
  • S Senthil Kumar
  • Dr Shemushi

In addition, two officers were granted proforma promotions to the same rank –

  • Gaja Rao Bhupal, who is currently on inter-state deputation to Telangana
  • Grewal Navdeep Singh K S, who is serving on central deputation

Mandatory Training Directive Issued

The promotion orders also specify that officers who have not completed the mandatory MCTP Phase-IV training must complete the same within one year. The directive has been issued to ensure compliance with service rules and career progression norms.

2012 Batch: DIG Promotion

From the 2012 batch, Vikrant Patil has been promoted to the Super Time Scale (Level 13A) in the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). He will continue in his present assignment on an in-situ basis.

2013 Batch: Selection Grade Promotions Cleared

Promotions have also been approved for officers of the 2013 batch to the Selection Grade (Level 13). All officers will continue in their current postings on an in-situ basis.
