New Delhi: In a key development for public sector leadership, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Anil Kumar Chawla for the post of Director (Personnel) at Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL), a Schedule ‘A’ Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).
Chawla is currently serving as General Manager (HR) at NTPC Limited, India’s largest energy conglomerate. He was selected from a panel of seven candidates who were interviewed by the PESB on October 7, 2025. The selection panel considered applicants from some of the country’s top PSUs, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Engineers India Limited (EIL), Power Grid Corporation, and THDC India Limited.
Chawla Brings Decades of HR and Public Sector Experience
Anil Kumar Chawla comes with an extensive background in human resource management, employee engagement, and industrial relations, having held senior leadership roles at NTPC. His experience in one of India’s most complex and large-scale public sector undertakings positions him well to take on strategic HR leadership at ECIL.
As Director (Personnel), Chawla will become a member of the Board of Directors of ECIL and will report to the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). He will be entrusted with framing and implementing policies related to personnel management, human capital development, industrial relations, and administration. His role will be critical in ensuring that ECIL’s human resources align with its broader mission in national security and strategic electronics.
Key Selection Reflects ECIL’s Strategic HR Focus
The appointment comes at a time when ECIL is expanding its operations in fields such as nuclear instrumentation, space electronics, homeland security systems, and cybersecurity solutions. With India placing increasing emphasis on indigenous technological development in critical sectors, the role of human resources in driving innovation, efficiency, and mission-aligned growth is more crucial than ever.
Chawla’s leadership is expected to help ECIL strengthen its talent pipeline, enhance employee performance, and maintain high levels of operational discipline—all of which are vital to the PSU’s continued success in mission-critical areas.
