Lucknow: Arpit Vijayvargiya, a 2017-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Traffic, in the Lucknow Police Commissionerate. Before this posting, he served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Barabanki district.
Police Commissioner Tarun Gaba assigned Vijayvargiya the traffic portfolio following his transfer to the Lucknow Police Commissionerate. He succeeds Rubina Tyagi, who has been transferred to Barabanki as Superintendent of Police.
Who Is Arpit Vijayvargiya?
Arpit Vijayvargiya hails from Kota, Rajasthan, and has an academic background in civil engineering. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur before pursuing his ambition of joining the civil services.
According to the source report, Vijayvargiya initially secured a banking-sector job with an annual package of ₹8 lakh. However, he left the job to prepare for the civil services examination.
After three unsuccessful attempts, he cleared the examination on his fourth attempt and joined the Indian Police Service (IPS), becoming an officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
Arpit Vijayvargiya’s IPS Career and Postings
Vijayvargiya has held policing assignments in several districts of Uttar Pradesh during his career.
His previous postings include:
- Bareilly and Saharanpur: Served in these districts during his earlier career.
- Muzaffarnagar: Worked as Superintendent of Police (City).
- Baghpat: Took charge as SP on March 12, 2023.
- Barabanki: Served as SP from April 15, 2025, to October 7, 2026.
- Lucknow: Appointed DCP, Traffic, in the Lucknow Police Commissionerate.
His latest assignment places him in charge of traffic policing in the state capital.
Awards and Recognition
Vijayvargiya was reportedly awarded the Director General of Police (DGP) Commendation Disc in Silver on August 15, 2024, and again on January 26, 2026.
The commendations form part of the reported recognition he has received during his service in the Uttar Pradesh Police.
With his appointment as DCP Traffic, Vijayvargiya takes over the traffic portfolio in Lucknow following his transfer from Barabanki.
