Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer Ashok Kumar Meena, currently serving as Superintendent of Police in Hardoi, has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry for his role in an encounter operation in Bareilly.
Meena, a 2015-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, received the medal at an investiture ceremony in Lucknow, where Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath presented the honour.
The gallantry medal was announced by the Centre on the occasion of Republic Day 2025.
Gallantry During Bareilly Encounter
According to the report, Meena received the honour for an operation carried out while he was posted as Additional Superintendent of Police in Bareilly.

On January 7, 2019, two motorcycle-borne criminals allegedly shot a jewellery trader and his employee near Kohadapir Pulia in Bareilly and escaped with ₹15 lakh.
Following the incident, a police team led by Meena reportedly surrounded the suspects. The report states that the accused opened fire at the police team, following which Meena and the team retaliated.
Two alleged robbers, identified as Kapil and Ashok, were killed during the encounter.
Currently Serving as Hardoi SP
Meena is currently posted as Superintendent of Police, Hardoi. The report states that he is involved in policing and law-and-order responsibilities in the district.

Ashok Kumar Meena is a 2015-batch Uttar Pradesh-cadre Indian Police Service officer who entered the service as a direct-recruit (RR) officer. His IPS identification number is 20151948, His home state Is Rajasthan and he joined the IPS on September 7, 2015.
Born on September 11, 1984, Meena holds a B.E. in Marine Engineering.
Meena has served as Superintendent of Police in districts including Farrukhabad, Shahjahanpur and Sonbhadra. He is currently posted as SP, Hardoi, with his present posting effective from September 18, 2025.
His service record includes several commendations, including the DG’s Commendation Disc (Silver) in 2019, Gold in 2022 and Platinum in 2023, along with the Gallantry Medal (GM) dated January 26, 2025.
