Leadership Updates: Atul Gupta Recommended as Next CMD of Engineers India Limited (EIL) by PESB

New Delhi: In a major leadership development for India’s oil and gas sector, Atul Gupta has been recommended as the next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Engineers India Limited (EIL), a prominent Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG). The recommendation was made by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on November 17 during its 111th selection meeting.

Currently serving as Director (Commercial) at EIL, Gupta emerges as the top candidate from a pool of nine candidates, which included five from EIL, two from Indian Oil, and one each from GAIL India Limited and Bridge And Roof Company (India) Limited.

A Career Built on Expertise and Leadership

Atul Gupta, a Mechanical Engineer from GBPUAT, Pantnagar, began his career at EIL in 1992 as a Management Trainee. Over the past three decades, he has amassed extensive experience across a wide range of domains, making him one of the most seasoned professionals in project execution, technical leadership, and commercial management.

Gupta has led multidisciplinary teams across process engineering, contracts, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning. His expertise covers both greenfield and brownfield projects in sectors such as refining, petrochemicals, pipelines, and fertilizers. His work spans multiple project locations within India and overseas, before he transitioned to EIL’s corporate office in 2007.

Throughout his tenure, Atul Gupta has been pivotal in the successful execution of several mega projects, adopting diverse modes of implementation. His leadership has significantly contributed to EIL’s operational efficiency, strategic growth, and commercial excellence. With decades of hands-on experience, he is well-positioned to steer the organization into its next phase of development under his stewardship as CMD.
