BEML Highlights Importance of Complaints in Preventing Corruption
A key feature of this year’s walkathon was its focus on the importance of complaints in identifying wrongdoing and strengthening institutional accountability.
As part of the public outreach initiative, pamphlets titled “Why Complaints Matter and Two Safe Ways to Complain – Complaint to the CVO and Complaint under PIDPI with Identity Protection” were distributed to members of the public along the route.
Volunteers and officers interacted with morning walkers, young people and other citizens to explain how complaints can help address grievances, identify irregularities and support systemic improvements.
The campaign highlighted that reporting genuine concerns is an important step towards strengthening transparency and preventing corruption.

BEML CVO Calls for Commitment to Ethical Governance
At the conclusion of the walkathon, Dr. Sajid Farid Shapoo, IPS, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of BEML, addressed the participants and emphasised the significance of Vigilance Awareness Week.
He stated that the observance should not be treated as a mere formality but as an opportunity for individuals and institutions to reflect on their practices and reaffirm their commitment to the highest standards of integrity.
Dr. Shapoo also highlighted that submitting a genuine complaint supported by specific facts requires courage and represents an act of national service. He reaffirmed BEML’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure mechanism for complainants under the Public Interest Disclosure and Protection of Informers (PIDPI) framework.
The address underscored the role of responsible reporting in promoting ethical conduct, improving institutional systems and building public confidence.
