The facility focuses on machining and manufacturing critical landing gear components used in aircraft. Landing gear is one of the most important structural systems in an aircraft, responsible for supporting the aircraft during take-off, landing, and ground operations.

This joint project aims to strengthen India’s aerospace supply chain and bring advanced manufacturing technology to the country.

What the New Aerospace Facility Will Produce

The Pune unit will manufacture high-precision landing gear components used in:

  • Commercial passenger aircraft
  • Military aircraft
  • Special aviation platforms

These components require extremely tight tolerances and high-quality materials because landing gear systems carry the entire weight of an aircraft during landing.

The facility will use advanced machining technologies and quality control systems to meet global aerospace standards and OEM certification requirements.

Why Bharat Forge Liebherr Aerospace facility Is Important for India

The new aerospace unit is significant for several reasons.

1. Strengthening India’s Aerospace Manufacturing

India has been trying to expand its aerospace manufacturing ecosystem. The new facility helps develop local capability in producing complex aircraft components, reducing dependence on imports.

2. Supporting the “Make in India” Initiative

The collaboration aligns with the Make in India program, which encourages global companies to manufacture advanced products within India.

3. Entry Into High-Value Aerospace Supply Chains

With OEM-approved machining capabilities, Bharat Forge becomes one of the first Indian companies capable of producing landing gear components for global aircraft manufacturers.

4. Job Creation and Technology Transfer

The facility is expected to generate high-skilled jobs and enable technology transfer from Europe to India, strengthening domestic engineering expertise.
