New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has announced a key change in its Board of Directors, appointing Nigar Fatima Husain as Part-time Government Nominee Director with effect from April 27, 2026.
The appointment has been made following a communication from the Ministry of Heavy Industries and approved by the company’s Board under SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015.
Government Nominee Change on BHEL Board
As per the official disclosure to stock exchanges, Nigar Fatima Husain replaces Asit Gopal, who has ceased to be a Director on the Board of BHEL.
The update was shared with both BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India Limited in compliance with regulatory norms.

Profile of Nigar Fatima Husain
Nigar Fatima Husain is a 1996-batch officer of the Indian Defence Estates Service and currently serves as Additional Secretary & Financial Advisor in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India.
Her previous key roles include:
- CEO of Roorkee, Jhansi, Deolali, and Mhow Cantonments
- Deputy Director General (Vigilance), Defence Estates
- Additional Director General, Defence Estates
- Director, Department of School Education & Literacy
- Joint Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs
She has extensive experience in administration, vigilance, and defence land management at the national level.
Educational Background
Ms. Husain holds:
- B.Sc. (Hons.) in Zoology from University of Calcutta
- LLB from University of Delhi
- Postgraduate degree in Sociology from Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar
The company confirmed that she is not debarred from holding office of Director by any regulatory authority.
Board Appointment Approved by Ministry
The appointment has been made under an order issued by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India and formally approved by the Board of Directors of BHEL. Officials confirmed that there are no inter-director relationships to disclose in the appointment.
Strategic Importance for BHEL Governance
The inclusion of a senior government finance and administrative officer on the board is expected to strengthen governance and policy alignment within the company, especially in line with central public sector enterprise frameworks.
