The 1990 batch IPS officer Anurag Gupta has been appointed as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) for Jharkhand, effective immediately.
This decision, announced via a government notification on Friday, comes as part of a broader effort to address and rectify leadership issues within the state police force, following a directive from the Supreme Court.
Mr Gupta, who was previously serving as the Director General of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) and holding additional responsibilities as the head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, will succeed Ajay Kumar Singh in the role. Mr Singh, a 1989-batch IPS officer, has been at the helm of Jharkhand’s police force since February of the previous year, taking over from Neeraj Sinha upon his retirement.
In a significant administrative shift, Ajay Kumar Singh will now assume the role of Managing Director at Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Ltd. This transition is a direct result of the Supreme Court’s intervention aimed at resolving ongoing disputes related to police leadership appointments in the state.
Anurag Gupta, with his extensive experience in both crime investigation and anti-corruption, is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the role of DGP, continuing efforts to enhance the effectiveness and transparency of Jharkhand’s law enforcement agencies.
While, Prashant Singh, a 1992 batch IPS officer, has been transferred from his position as Chairman-Managing Director of Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Limited to the role of Director General of Communication and Technical Services.
