In a significant step towards improving healthcare infrastructure in Bihar, the state government has approved the formation of the Bihar Cancer Care and Research Society. The decision was taken during a meeting of the State Council of Ministers chaired by Hon’ble Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Announcing the development, Bihar Health Minister Mr. Mangal Pandey said that the newly approved society will serve as an apex institution dedicated to the prevention, treatment, and research of cancer. The initiative aims to ensure effective prevention, quality treatment, and proper management of cancer cases across the state.
“Before 2005, even for common ailments, people in Bihar had to travel outside the state for treatment,” Mr. Pandey said. “But under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar has been undergoing historic reforms in the healthcare sector. The formation of this society marks a major milestone in our ongoing commitment to improve public health services.”
The Health Minister emphasized that the decision comes in response to the growing number of cancer cases, improved screening efforts, and the urgent need for a more robust healthcare response using modern medical technology.
The Bihar Cancer Care and Research Society will function independently, focusing on:
1)Providing timely and specialized treatment to cancer patients
2)Conducting extensive awareness campaigns for cancer prevention
3)Advancing medical research and training to strengthen the healthcare workforce
Mr. Pandey said that the society will offer dedicated and focused cancer care services, bringing significant improvements in the quality, accessibility, and efficiency of cancer treatment throughout Bihar.
