Patna: With the Bihar Assembly Elections on the horizon, the State Home Department has initiated a major reshuffle in the police force. On Thursday, six Indian Police Service (IPS) officers and 26 Bihar Police Service officers were transferred and assigned to new postings, many of which carry critical responsibilities in politically and communally sensitive districts.
The transfers are widely seen as part of a larger strategy to tighten the state’s security apparatus and ensure smooth and fair election conduct across the state.

These postings place newly inducted officers at the frontline of election preparedness, law and order management, and community policing.
26 Bihar Police Service Officers Also Shifted
In parallel, 26 officers from the Bihar Police Service cadre have been given new postings in crucial areas. Many of these changes impact district-level policing, cybercrime, and traffic enforcement units.
Key appointments include:
- Sunita Kumari – SDPO Pupri, Sitamarhi
- Nav Vaibhav – Traffic DSP, Patna
- Ramakrishna – Cyber Crime DSP, Katihar
- Gopal Krishna – Cyber Crime DSP, Jehanabad
- Nawal Kishore – Cyber Crime DSP, Patna
- Shailesh Pritam – SDPO, Banmankhi

These transfers aim to beef up cyber policing, manage railway zone security, and streamline traffic control in urban centers.
Appointments in Vigilance and Police Training Units
Recognizing the importance of administrative transparency, the government has also made new appointments in vigilance and training units:
- Mohd. Wasim Feroz – DSP, Surveillance Investigation Bureau, Patna
- Narendra Kumar – Surveillance DSP, Patna
- Sahriyar Akhtar and Sumit Kumar – Assigned to Bihar Police Academy, Rajgir
These assignments are seen as crucial to curbing bureaucratic corruption and ensuring professional training for new officers.
Election Readiness and Law & Order Priority for State Government
The reshuffle underscores the government’s focus on preparing a robust security and administrative framework for the upcoming polls. With concerns over communal tensions, poll-related violence, and logistical challenges, these officer-level changes are intended to ensure a neutral and efficient police presence throughout the election period.
