Bihar Government Promotes 43 IPS Officers Ahead of New Year, Kundan Krishnan Elevated to DGP | List Inside

Ritu Verma, Ajay Singh, and Pankaj Kumar among Bihar IPS officers receiving key postings ahead of the New Year. The state government has released the complete list of promotions.

Patna: In a significant administrative move ahead of the New Year, the Bihar government has promoted 43 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, giving a major boost to the state’s police leadership structure. The promotions were announced through a notification issued by the Home Department on Tuesday and include elevations across ranks from Director General of Police (DGP) to senior and junior grades.

The promotions will be effective from January 1, 2026, or from the date the officers assume charge thereafter, as per the official notification.

Kundan Krishnan Promoted to DGP Rank

Among the most notable promotions, Kundan Krishnan, a 1994-batch IPS officer, has been elevated from Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP). He is currently on central deputation. His promotion is seen as a key development in strengthening top-level police leadership in Bihar.

IG to ADG and DIG to IG Promotions

The Home Department has also promoted officers across senior leadership ranks –

  • Shalin (2001 batch), currently on central deputation, has been promoted from Inspector General (IG) to Additional Director General (ADG).
  • Eight DIG-rank officers have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General (IG).

DIG to IG Promotions (2008 Batch)

  • Manoj Kumar
  • Sanjay Kumar
  • Vivekananda
  • Vikash Burman

Additionally, five officers of the 2008 batch on central deputation have received conditional promotions to IG rank –

  • Upendra Kumar Sharma
  • Satya Veer Singh
  • Vikash Burman
  • Kim
  • Nitasha Gudiya

These officers have been directed to undergo mandatory Phase-IV training under the Mid-Career Training Programme (MCTP).

22 IPS Officers Promoted to DIG Rank

A total of 22 senior-grade IPS officers of the 2012 batch have been promoted to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) rank. The promoted officers include:

Avakash Kumar, Anand Kumar, Kumar Ashish, Raviranjan Kumar, Deepak Ranjan, Inamul Haque Manganu, Aamir Javed, Ashok Kumar Singh, Sanjay Kumar Singh, Rajiv Ranjan-1, Rakesh Kumar Sinha, Ajay Kumar Pandey, Neeraj Kumar Singh, Sushant Kumar Saroj, Rajiv Ranjan-2, Raman Kumar Chaudhary, Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Shailesh Kumar Sinha, Satyanarayan Kumar, Ramashankar Rai, Sushil Kumar, and Dilnawaz Ahmed.

12 Officers Promoted to Senior Administrative Grade

The Home Department has also promoted 12 junior administrative grade IPS officers of the 2013 batch to the senior grade, further strengthening mid-level police administration.

The promoted officers are –

Manish, Jagunath Reddy Jalareddy, Vishal Sharma, Upendra Nath Verma, Gaurav Mangala, D Amarkesh, Rakesh Kumar, Beena Kumari, Md Saifurrahman, Rajesh Kumar, Pankaj Kumar, and Ashok Kumar Prasad.

Promotions to Take Effect from January 2026

According to the notification, all promotions will be implemented from January 1, 2026, or from the date of assuming charge thereafter. The large-scale promotions reflect the state government’s effort to streamline police administration and strengthen leadership ahead of upcoming administrative and law-and-order challenges.
