Patna: In a move aimed at strengthening Bihar’s policing, intelligence and enforcement mechanisms, the state government on Monday carried out a minor reshuffle of the Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre, transferring nine senior officers and assigning additional responsibilities to some of them.
The reshuffle, notified by the Home Department, involves officers from the 2006 to 2018 batches holding positions at the ranks of Inspector General (IG), Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Commandant. Officials said the exercise is intended to improve administrative coordination and reinforce critical policing wings dealing with crime records, anti-terror operations, prohibition enforcement and special armed units.
Pankaj Kumar Raj Posted to SCRB, Given Additional Railways Charge
Among the key changes, Pankaj Kumar Raj (2006 batch), who was serving as Inspector General of Civil Defence, has been transferred and posted as Inspector General of the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB).
In addition to his new assignment, he has also been entrusted with the additional charge of Inspector General, Railways, a crucial responsibility overseeing railway policing and security coordination.
S. Premlatha Takes Over Prohibition and State Narcotics Control Bureau
Senior IPS officer S Premlatha (2006 batch), previously serving as IG, Technical Services and Communication, has been posted as Inspector General of Prohibition and the State Narcotics Control Bureau.
The position is considered strategically important as Bihar continues to enforce its prohibition policy while simultaneously addressing challenges related to narcotics trafficking and drug-related offences.
Sanjay Kumar Given Additional Charge of BSAP
Sanjay Kumar (2008 batch), currently serving as Inspector General, Special Branch, has been assigned additional charge of the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP).
The move is expected to strengthen coordination between intelligence gathering and armed police operations across the state.
Changes in Crime Records and Home Guards
The reshuffle also brought changes at the DIG level.
Sudhir Kumar Porika Moved to SCRB
Sudhir Kumar Porika (2010 batch), who was serving as DIG, Home Guards and Fire Services, has been transferred as Deputy Inspector General, State Crime Records Bureau, Patna.
His posting is expected to bolster crime data management and digital policing initiatives in the state.
Sushant Kumar Saroj Posted to ATS
Sushant Kumar Saroj (2012 batch), DIG, Traffic, has been transferred as DIG of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Bihar.
He will continue to hold additional charge of the Traffic wing while overseeing anti-terror operations and intelligence-led investigations.
Deepak Ranjan Shifted to CID
Another significant posting involves Deepak Ranjan (2012 batch), who was serving as DIG at the Bihar Police Academy, Rajgir.
He has been transferred to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) as DIG, where he will be involved in supervising investigations into major criminal cases and specialized probes.
Kumar Gautam Appointed Commandant of BSAP-5
Returning from interstate deputation in the West Bengal cadre, Kumar Gautam (2011 batch) has been appointed Commandant of BSAP-5, Patna.
He had been awaiting posting after his return and has now been assigned a key operational role within the armed police structure.

Ajay Kumar (2018 batch), who was serving as Commandant of BSAP-5, has been posted as Commandant of the Special Security Group (SSG), Patna.
The SSG plays a vital role in VIP security and specialized protection duties within the state.

Officials indicated that the reshuffle has been carefully designed to strengthen critical police formations responsible for:
