Patna: The Bihar Government has launched a new initiative to promote the cultivation of Lady Rosetta potatoes, an advanced variety used in the production of chips and French fries, as part of its efforts to enhance farmers’ income. The program provides farmers with a 75% subsidy, encouraging them to adopt this high-demand crop.
Subsidy and Application Details
Under the Lady Rosetta Area Expansion Scheme, the Bihar Government is providing subsidized seeds and financial support to farmers. Farmers can apply through the Department of Horticulture websitehorticulture.bihar.gov.in or via the Bihar Agriculture App by January 15, 2026.
The scheme covers farm sizes from 0.25 acre (0.1 hectare) to 5 acres (2 hectares). The estimated seed requirement is 30 quintals per hectare, and the total cost of cultivation per hectare is approximately ₹1.25 lakh. The government provides 75% financial assistance, amounting to around ₹94,000 per hectare, which includes the cost of seeds.
The subsidy is disbursed in two installments:
- First installment: ₹70,397 per hectare for inputs and procurement of seeds
- Second installment: ₹23,466 per hectare after field inspection and physical verification post-planting
Selection of farmers will follow the “first-come, first-served” principle.

The scheme is being implemented across 17 districts in Bihar, including Aurangabad, Banka, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Gopalganj, Katihar, Khagaria, Lakhisarai, Nalanda, Nawada, Patna, Samastipur, Saran, Sheikhpura, Siwan, and Vaishali.
