Patna: Bihar’s State Coaching Scheme for minority youth has expanded its reach, providing competitive-exam coaching opportunities to 3,610 students over the financial years 2024–25 and 2025–26. Of these, 1,043 candidates achieved success, according to information from the state’s Minority Welfare Department.

For the current financial year, 2026–27, the government has approved coaching programmes for another 693 students so far. The initiative aims to help young people from minority communities prepare for competitive examinations through structured coaching, expert guidance and academic support.

Coaching Opportunities Nearly Doubled in One Year

The scheme covered 1,230 students in the financial year 2024–25. Of these, 545 candidates were reported successful.

In 2025–26, the number of students receiving coaching increased to 2,380, marking a rise of 1,150 students in a single year. The number of beneficiaries therefore grew to nearly 1.9 times the previous year’s figure.

During the same period, 498 candidates achieved success in 2025–26, compared with 545 in the preceding financial year. Across the two years, the scheme recorded a total of 1,043 successful candidates.

The figures indicate a significant expansion in the number of students receiving coaching support. However, the department’s figures do not specify the examinations cleared by all successful candidates or provide a breakdown of their selection outcomes.

BPSC and Driver Constable Examinations Included

The coaching programmes approved for 2026–27 include preparation for the preliminary examination conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).

The scheme also provides for motor vehicle proficiency training for candidates who qualify for the relevant stage of the Driver Constable competitive examination conducted by the Central Selection Board of Constables.

These provisions address different requirements in the recruitment process. BPSC preliminary exam coaching can help candidates prepare for the initial stage of a competitive examination, while motor vehicle proficiency training can help eligible driver constable candidates prepare for the practical requirements of recruitment.

By covering examination preparation as well as specialised training, the scheme seeks to support candidates at different stages of their pursuit of government employment.

Six Minority Communities Eligible for Support

The State Coaching Scheme extends benefits to young people from six minority communities: Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Parsi.

Its main objective is to make quality coaching, expert guidance and academic assistance more accessible to candidates preparing for competitive examinations. Such support can help students follow a structured study plan and prepare for the different stages of recruitment.

For candidates who may face barriers in accessing specialised coaching, the programme offers an opportunity to receive organised academic support. The scheme is intended to improve their preparation and help them compete for government jobs and other employment opportunities.

Focus on Education and Employment Opportunities

The increase in the number of students covered by the scheme reflects the state government’s effort to extend competitive-exam preparation support to more minority youth. The approval of coaching programmes for 693 candidates in 2026–27 indicates that the initiative is continuing in the current financial year.

The reported success of 1,043 candidates over two years provides an indication of the outcomes associated with the programme. At the same time, further details on examination-wise results, selections and placements would help assess its impact more closely.

By combining coaching with targeted training for specific recruitment examinations, Bihar’s State Coaching Scheme aims to strengthen access to preparation resources. Its wider significance lies in helping young people from minority communities pursue educational and employment opportunities through a more structured route to competitive examinations.
