Villages to Get Sports Clubs as Bihar Builds a Grassroots Talent Pipeline

Bihar is setting up sports clubs across urban and rural panchayats to identify local talent, encourage regular practice and prepare young players for higher-level competitions.

Patna: Bihar is stepping up efforts to bring sports opportunities closer to children and young people in rural and remote areas by creating sports clubs at the panchayat level.

The initiative aims to provide a regular platform for practice, identify promising players and build a stronger grassroots sports network across the state.

Registration Open Till August 15

The Sports Department started online registration for forming sports clubs on July 1, 2026.

The final date for registration is August 15.

Interested people can register through club.biharsports.org. The department is now working to complete the process of forming clubs across urban and rural panchayat areas.

Taking Sports Closer to Villages

Many young players in rural Bihar have sporting ability but lack access to regular practice facilities and organised sports activities.

Panchayat-level sports clubs are expected to help address this gap by creating opportunities closer to where children and young people live.

The initiative will focus on:

  • Identifying local sporting talent
  • Encouraging regular practice
  • Connecting children and youth with sports activities
  • Preparing promising players for higher-level competitions

Building a Grassroots Sports Network

The department’s plan goes beyond organising occasional competitions.

Regular activities through local sports clubs can help create a stronger sporting culture in villages and encourage more children to take up sports.

The panchayat-level network can also become an important base for identifying players who can later participate in block, district and state-level competitions.

A Pathway for Rural Talent

For many young athletes, the biggest challenge is finding an opportunity to practise and showcase their ability.

By establishing sports clubs closer to communities, Bihar aims to create a more structured pathway from local participation to competitive sports.

The initiative could therefore help the state identify talent earlier and give promising players a better chance to progress.
