NEW DELHI: Senior 1989-batch IAS officer Anurag Jain is set to join as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog on August 17, marking his return to the Central Government after serving as Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh.
Mr Jain, a Madhya Pradesh cadre officer, was appointed CEO of NITI Aayog in July 2026 after completing an eventful tenure as the state’s Chief Secretary. His appointment places a seasoned administrator with extensive experience in infrastructure, finance, industrial development and public policy at the helm of the government’s premier policy think tank.
His joining comes after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved his appointment with immediate effect.

Jain is scheduled to formally assume charge as NITI Aayog CEO on August 17, 2026.
The appointment was approved by the ACC during July 21-22, with Jain being selected after his tenure as Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary.
According to the official order, Jain will serve as CEO for the duration of his approved extension in service and thereafter continue in the position for an overall period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
His appointment will be governed by the same terms and conditions that applied to his predecessor.

Jain was serving as the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, having taken charge in October 2024.
He succeeded Veera Rana, IAS (1988: MP) as the state’s top bureaucrat and subsequently received two extensions in service.
