Patna: The Bihar government, through its Sugarcane Industry Department, has successfully procured more than 104 lakh quintals of sugarcane from state farmers since the beginning of the crushing season. The procurement drive is being carried out across 225 strategically established purchase centers, ensuring smooth delivery of sugarcane and timely payments to farmers.
Procurement Highlights Across Major Sugar Mills
The sugarcane purchase has been distributed among major sugar mills across the state, with Harinagar sugar mill topping the list by procuring 25.24 lakh quintals through 22 centers. Narkatiaganj followed with 21.25 lakh quintals from 20 centers, and Bagaha procured 16.23 lakh quintals via 38 centers. Other mills including Majhaulia (11.28 lakh quintals through 36 centers), Lauria (7.12 lakh quintals via 12 centers), Sugauli (6.94 lakh quintals through 18 centers), Hasanpur (6.17 lakh quintals via 24 centers), Sidhwaliya (5.42 lakh quintals through 30 centers), and Gopalganj (4.86 lakh quintals via 20 centers) have actively participated in the procurement drive.

Timely Payments and Transparency for Farmers
So far, approximately 57.81% of the total procured sugarcane has been paid for, amounting to around ₹21,821.14 lakh. The remaining payment is being processed to ensure farmers receive full and timely compensation. Anil Kumar Jha, Commissioner of the Sugarcane Industry Department, emphasized that the state government is closely monitoring all purchase centers to maintain transparency and accountability in payments.

With the start of the crushing season, all sugar mills in Bihar were directed to procure sugarcane efficiently to support farmers and prevent any inconvenience in delivering their produce. The state government’s efforts aim to strengthen the sugarcane supply chain, provide timely financial relief to farmers, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
