New Delhi: In a significant push towards modernising its logistics capabilities, the Indian Army has inked a Rs 223.95 crore contract with Axiscades Aerospace and Technologies Pvt Ltd for the procurement of 212 next-generation 50-ton Tank Transporter Trailers. These advanced trailers are designed to enhance the swift movement of tanks and other armoured vehicles across difficult terrains during battle conditions.

Cutting-Edge Features to Enhance Mobility

Equipped with hydraulic and pneumatic loading ramps, as well as steerable and liftable axles, these trailers will enable rapid and efficient loading, unloading, and transportation of heavy vehicles. This innovation is set to greatly improve operational efficiency and battlefield logistics for the Indian Army’s field units.

Supporting ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ Through Indigenous Sourcing

The contract falls under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, reflecting the government’s commitment to the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, which promotes self-reliance by encouraging indigenous defence manufacturing. This deal is expected to boost the domestic defence sector and create sustainable employment opportunities within the country.

Wider Defence Modernisation Efforts Underway

This procurement is part of a broader wave of military modernisation. Recently, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved 10 proposals worth approximately Rs 1.05 lakh crore for indigenous purchase of cutting-edge military hardware, including missiles and electronic warfare systems.

The government’s proactive approach aims to reduce dependency on foreign imports and strengthen India’s strategic defence capabilities.
