Hyderabad: India is set to host the Second BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) Meeting and the Second BRICS Expert Network on Asset Recovery Meeting in Hyderabad, Telangana, on August 4–5, 2026. Organised by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under India’s BRICS Presidency 2026, the meeting aims to strengthen cooperation among BRICS nations in tackling corruption, improving asset recovery, and promoting transparent governance.

The event is being organised around the theme of India’s BRICS Presidency, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” Senior policymakers, anti-corruption experts, law enforcement officials and representatives from all BRICS member countries are expected to participate.

Building on Earlier Discussions

The Hyderabad meeting follows the First BRICS Anti-Corruption Working Group Meeting, held virtually on June 2–3, 2026. The upcoming discussions are expected to review the progress made so far and identify practical measures to strengthen international cooperation against corruption.

The inaugural session will be addressed by Rachna Shah  1991-batch IAS officer , Secretary, Department of Personnel and Training.

Key Issues on the Agenda

The two-day meeting will focus on improving coordination among BRICS countries in tackling corruption that extends beyond national borders.

Discussions will include:

  • Strengthening cooperation to trace fugitive offenders and support extradition in corruption cases.
  • Enhancing information-sharing through the BRICS Expert Network on Asset Recovery.
  • Sharing best practices to address corruption risks linked to FinTech, digital assets and emerging financial technologies.

The objective is to improve operational cooperation while enabling member countries to learn from each other’s experiences.

Special Focus on Technology and Ethical Governance

A dedicated side event titled “Ethical Governance through Innovation and Tech-Driven Systems” will be organised on August 5.

The session will explore how technology can strengthen transparency, accountability and integrity in public administration. BRICS members will exchange experiences on digital public procurement, citizen engagement platforms and other innovative governance practices aimed at reducing corruption.

The discussions are expected to highlight how digital tools can improve public service delivery while making government systems more transparent and accountable.

India’s Role Under BRICS Presidency

As the final Anti-Corruption Working Group meeting under India’s BRICS Presidency 2026, the Hyderabad gathering is expected to consolidate the progress achieved over the past year.

The meeting will reaffirm India’s commitment to promoting practical cooperation through dialogue, knowledge-sharing and collaborative initiatives. It also seeks to strengthen institutional capacity among BRICS nations in areas such as asset recovery, prevention of cross-border corruption and technology-enabled governance.

The outcomes of the meeting are expected to contribute to long-term cooperation among BRICS countries and reinforce collective efforts to improve transparency, accountability and integrity in governance.
