Suresh Chavhanke, chairman and managing director of Sudarshan TV was caught up in a controversy after he uploaded a news video targetting a religious community on 25 August 2020. The video claimed that the number of Muslim candidates appearing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has seen an upward trend suddenly. He also asked, “How has the number of Muslims IAS and IPS increased recently?”

On Thursday, IPS Association reacted to the controversial tweet which was doing the rounds on various social media platforms and said, “A news story targeting candidates in civil services on the basis of religion is being promoted by Sudarshan TV. We condemn the communal and irresponsible piece of journalism.”

The news video also mentioned communal hatred against Jamia Millia Islamia University, after which an official press release was issued in which the Jamia Teachers’ Association requested the University administration to file Criminal Defamation Suit against Suresh Chavhanke.

After this news video went viral on social media, many civil servants expressed their views regarding the same. Here is the compilation of some reactions of civil servants on Twitter.

Indian Police Foundation tweeted, “The hate story carried on a Noida TV channel against minority candidates joining IAS /IPS is dangerous bigotry. We refrain from retweeting it because it is pure venom. We hope #NewsBroadcastingStandardsAuthority, #UPPolice and concerned government authorities take strict action.”

IAS officer Awanish Sharan tweeted, “A new entry in the ‘मंडी’ of TRP. He should be asked about the source and reliability of this so called “पर्दाफ़ाश.”

Senior IPS officer RK Vij tweeted, “Disgusting. Condemnable. This must be stopped.”

After facing a lot of complaints, Suresh Chavhanke replied by posting a conversation with Twitter in which he said, “Truth Wins! Twitter did not find anything wrong in my any tweet. Thousands of fake complaints submitted against me in police stations by left cabal but TRUTH SHALL Win in court, too! ट्विटर ने भी माना मैंने कुछ भी ग़लत नहीं लिखा। देखे #नौकरशाही_जिहाद #UPSCJihad 2day, 8pm daily”
