Bhubaneswar: Retired IPS officer Jalad Kumar Tripathi has been appointed as the new State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) by the government of Odisha on Thursday. The post of CIC had fallen vacant since the retirement of Sunil Kumar Mishra on August 15.
An official notification of the appointment was released by the State Information and Public Relations department after the approval of the Governor, Prof Ganeshi Lal. As per norms, Mr. Tripathi will hold office for a term of five years from the date of joining or attaining the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
Mr. Tripathi belongs to 1985 IPS batch of the Tamil Nadu cadre. He served as DGP and as well as Commissioner of Police in Chennai. He was also posted with the Crime Branch and Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Tamil Nadu. He was the first cop to receive the ‘Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration’ in 2008.
Sources says that Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik had recommended Mr. Tripathi’s name for the post of CIC in the Odisha Information Committee (OIC) in a meeting held Wednesday.
Mr. Tripathi is a native of Veda village under Salipur, Cuttack district, Odisha.
