The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has declared two more candidates for the May 13 Lok Sabha polls. Interestingly, both are former bureaucrats.
A former IAS officer of the 2006 batch, Mr. P. Venkatram Reddy, will contest from Medak. 59-year-old Mr. Reddy was selected for IAS under the State Civil Services (SCS) category and allocated to the 2006 batch. He was due for regular retirement from service in September 2022. But he took voluntary retirement in November 2021.
At that time, he was the district collector of Siddipet, Telangana. He is a native of Odela village in Peddapalli district. Presently, Mr. Reddy is an MLC. He quit the BSP on March 16 of this year.
While former bureaucrat Dr. R. S. Praveen Kumar, an IPS officer of the 1995 batch, will be contested from Nagarkurnool. He recently quit BSP and joined BRS.
Mr. Kumar unsuccessfully contested the assembly polls in November last year when he was heading the state unit of the Mayawati-led party. He quit the BSP on March 16.
On July 19, 2021, he announced his voluntary retirement and resigned from his post as secretary of the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS). He is known for his work in the upliftment of marginalised students as the Secretary of TSWREIS. He is a member of the Scheduled Caste (Madiga) community.
A graduate in veterinary science, Mr. Kumar did his Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University’s Kennedy School under an Edward S. Mason fellowship. In July of this year, President’s Police Medal winner Kumar surprised everyone when he announced his candidature from Sirpur for the Telangana Assembly elections in 2023.
Meanwhile, the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS party in Telangana has announced candidates for 13 Lok Sabha seats out of the total of 17 in Telangana.
