Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai laid the foundation for the Chitrotpala International Film City and Tribal & Cultural Convention Centre in Naya Raipur. The project, spread over 95 acres, has received an initial investment of ₹150 crore for its first phase.
The initiative, led by Rajnandini Entertainment Ltd and Indradeep Infra Ltd, with Tarun Rathi as concessionaire, aims to transform Naya Raipur into a major hub for film production, cultural exchange, and tourism, while creating long-term economic opportunities for local communities.
Integrated Ecosystem for Film Production
The Chitrotpala Film City is designed as a comprehensive production hub, offering state-of-the-art studios, advanced facilities, and allied services. This end-to-end approach enables filmmakers to complete entire projects within Chhattisgarh.
The first phase is expected to be completed in approximately two years, with subsequent phases planned at an additional investment of ₹250–300 crore. The project also enjoys support from India’s Ministry of Tourism under its Special Assistance Scheme, highlighting its strategic significance.
Collaboration and Local Economic Impact
Strategic collaborations with India Exposition Mart Limited (IEML) and the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) aim to integrate exhibition and convention centers, hotels, and business showrooms into the project.
This integrated approach is designed to create sustained market access and employment for local artisans, tribal communities, MSMEs, and skilled youth, while promoting Chhattisgarh’s indigenous crafts and creative talent at national and international levels.
Veteran filmmaker Anil Sharma, associated with the ‘Gadar’ franchise, attended the foundation ceremony, signaling early industry support and potential for production interest.
Sectoral Ambition and Competitive Edge
Chhattisgarh’s foray into film infrastructure positions the state among leading production hubs like Telangana (Hyderabad), Tamil Nadu (Chennai), and Uttar Pradesh, which have long invested in film cities and studios.
The Chitrotpala Film City’s focus on a complete ecosystem, combined with cultural and exhibition facilities, sets it apart. Early discussions indicate that films like ‘Golmaal 5’ and ‘Gadaar 3’ may consider the new facility for shooting.
The project’s total valuation is approximately USD 49 million, underlining its potential to boost regional employment, attract filmmakers, and promote cultural tourism.
Driving Cultural Tourism and Economic Growth
The Chitrotpala International Film City aims to decentralize India’s film production, provide a world-class infrastructure for filmmakers, and strengthen Chhattisgarh’s position as a cultural and creative hub. The project is expected to generate employment, empower local talent, and enhance the state’s economic and cultural profile in the media and entertainment sector.
