Raipur: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai addressed the National Fisherfolk Awareness Conference at Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium in Raipur, emphasizing the transformative role of education, the importance of an organized society, and the government’s continued efforts in the fisheries sector. The event was attended by fisherfolk representatives, national association leaders, and government officials from across the country.
“Education is the Foundation of a Successful Life”: CM Sai
CM Sai began his address by highlighting that education is not merely a means to secure jobs, but a pathway to holistic success and social development. “Whether it’s agriculture, trade, or any other field—education plays a vital role in achieving success,” he said.
He recalled the state’s educational journey since its formation. “At the time of Chhattisgarh’s creation, there was just one medical college. Today, we have around 15 medical colleges and prestigious institutions like IIT, IIIT, IIM, Law University, AIIMS, and CIPET have been established in the state,” he said, noting that these institutes are now benefiting local students across the state.
Call for a United Society and Drug-Free Communities
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of unity and social organization, stating that only a united society can build a strong nation. He also warned against the dangers of drug addiction, describing it as a major barrier to community development, and urged everyone to take a pledge for a drug-free society.
He added that Nalanda campuses are being developed in every district to guide the youth and provide them with new opportunities.
Reforms in Fisheries Sector and End of Contract System
Touching upon the welfare of fisher communities, CM Sai commended the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana launched under PM Narendra Modi, calling it a revolutionary step for uplifting the livelihoods of fisherfolk.
He also announced a significant reform: the abolition of the contract system in Gangrel Dam, allowing displaced farmers in submergence areas to practice fishing directly, restoring their rights and sources of livelihood.
Chhattisgarh’s First Aqua Park Coming Up at Hasdeo Bango Reservoir
The Chief Minister shared that the state’s first Aqua Park is under construction at the Hasdeo Bango Reservoir, with an investment of ₹37 crore. This initiative aims to boost:
- Fish production
- Processing and export
- Tourism opportunities
Currently, fish farming is being conducted in 800 cages, directly benefiting multiple local panchayats and contributing to the rural economy.
“This will not only increase the income of fisherfolk but also strengthen the rural economic structure,” he said.
National Leaders Praise Contribution and Legacy of Nishad Community
Addressing the event, Union Minister of State Dr. Rajbhushan Choudhary Nishad lauded the rich history of the Nishad community, calling it a legacy of pride. He emphasized the need to educate the new generation about this heritage, noting that PM Modi has consistently recognized and uplifted the community.
He cited the construction of the Nishad Raj Temple near the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya as an example of the Prime Minister’s commitment to the community’s respect and inclusion.
Deputy CM and Other Dignitaries Applaud Nishad Community’s Hard Work
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma also praised the dedicated and hardworking nature of the Nishad community, acknowledging its invaluable contribution to the state’s progress.
The event saw the presence of several dignitaries including MLA Sunil Soni, Chhattisgarh Fishermen Welfare Board Chairman Bharat Matiyara, and numerous community leaders and public representatives from across the country.
