Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday reiterated that the health of the state’s three crore citizens remains the top priority of his government. He assured that financial resources will never be a hurdle in providing quality healthcare to the people.
He was addressing the inaugural session of the two-day AeroCon 2025 (Chhattisgarh–Madhya Pradesh chapter) at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Auditorium in Raipur. On this occasion, he also announced the construction of a new student hostel worth ₹65 crore at the Raipur Medical College.
Boost to Cancer Care and Research
Highlighting advancements in healthcare, CM Sai said that thousands of patients battling cancer are today benefiting from the expertise of specialists and modern treatment methods. Over the past two decades, research in early cancer detection and treatment has offered new hope.
He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cancer day-care centers are being established in every district, and Chhattisgarh is making rapid strides in this direction. Through the Mukhyamantri Vishesh Swasthya Sahayata Yojana, many patients have been able to access life-saving treatments.
The CM also welcomed the reduction of GST on cancer medicines and equipment, which has provided major relief to patients. He announced that AIIMS Raipur has launched a robotic surgery system, reflecting how government hospitals are emerging as leaders in adopting modern technologies. He further underlined the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in early cancer detection, and assured that the state government is actively integrating it into healthcare services.
Expanding Health Infrastructure
CM Sai emphasized that the government is steadily increasing the health budget and expanding medical education by setting up new colleges. He revealed that a 5,000-bed Medicity is being built at Nava Raipur, while new hospitals are planned in Surguja, Dharamjaigarh, and Bastar.
He expressed confidence that AeroCon 2025 will prove to be a milestone in cancer prevention and treatment.
Leaders Highlight Future Roadmap
Addressing the event, Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh said AeroCon 2025 has brought together experts from various fields of cancer treatment on one platform, paving the way for innovative approaches. He noted that Raipur’s Mekahara Hospital is already a key treatment center for patients across central India and will be further strengthened with advanced technologies.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal informed that Raipur Medical College has become the state’s largest cancer center with modern facilities. He announced upcoming initiatives, including six physiotherapy colleges, new super-speciality hospitals in Bastar and Surguja, a dedicated mental health hospital, and a naturopathy college.
He also revealed that Mekahara will see a ₹232 crore expansion with 700 new beds, along with facilities such as robotic surgery and an IVF center.
