Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai Increases Ex-Gratia to ₹50 Lakh for Martyred Soldiers’ Families, Announces Welfare Boost for Veterans

Raipur: In a significant welfare move, the Chhattisgarh government has approved a substantial hike in financial compensation for families of soldiers from the state who lose their lives in war or military operations. The ex-gratia amount has been increased from ₹20 lakh to ₹50 lakh, officials confirmed on Monday.

The decision was announced during a meeting of the Rajya Sainik Board (RSB), chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at the Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan in Nava Raipur.

Support for Families of Soldiers and Ex-Servicemen

The meeting focused on improving welfare schemes for war widows, ex-servicemen, and their dependents. Chief Minister Sai reiterated the government’s commitment to the armed forces community, stating:

“Our soldiers sacrifice their lives for the security of 140 crore Indians. It is our duty to ensure the well-being of their families. We bow to their courage and commitment.”

Key Financial Announcements

The state government unveiled a series of enhanced financial benefits:

  • Martyrs’ Families:
    Ex-gratia increased from ₹20 lakh to ₹50 lakh.
  • Gallantry Award Recipients:
    Compensation hiked from ₹40 lakh to ₹1 crore.
  • Disabled Soldiers:
    Financial assistance raised from ₹10 lakh to ₹30 lakh for soldiers injured in war or operations.
  • Parents of Soldiers (‘Jangi Inaam’):
    Motivational grant increased from ₹5,000 to ₹20,000 per year.
  • Stamp Duty Exemption:
    Serving soldiers, veterans, widows, and dependents will now receive stamp duty exemption up to ₹25 lakh on their first home or land purchase.

Suggestions Welcomed for Policy Improvement

Several members of the Rajya Sainik Board put forward recommendations aimed at improving the quality of life for ex-servicemen and their families. The Chief Minister assured that these suggestions would be positively considered for future implementation.

Directorate of Sainik Welfare Presents Report

Brigadier Vivek Sharma (Retd.), Director of the Directorate of Sainik Welfare and Secretary of the RSB, presented a summary of the board’s activities and the ongoing welfare programs being executed across the state.

The government’s decision marks a meaningful stride in honoring the sacrifice and bravery of India’s soldiers, while ensuring their families are financially supported and socially respected. These measures are expected to improve both morale and material well-being across the armed forces community in Chhattisgarh.
