Raipur: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced a new electricity scheme during a special session of the state assembly. Households consuming up to 200 units of electricity will now receive the full benefit of half electricity bills. This initiative is expected to directly benefit 36 lakh domestic consumers across Chhattisgarh.

Extended Benefit for Moderate-Consumption Households

Households with electricity consumption between 200 and 400 units will also enjoy the half electricity bill benefit for up to 200 units for one year. This provision allows consumers time to install solar plants under the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme. About 6 lakh consumers are expected to benefit from this provision.

Promotion of Solar Energy with Subsidies

The new scheme complements the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity initiative, which provides financial assistance for installing solar plants. The state government will offer an additional subsidy of ₹15,000 for 1 kW solar plants and ₹30,000 for 2 kW or higher capacity plants. This move aims to encourage solar adoption and gradually transition households from half electricity bills to free electricity.

Implementation Timeline and Government Priorities

The scheme will be implemented from December 1, 2025. CM Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that the state government’s top priority is to provide affordable, reliable, and uninterrupted electricity to all consumers. He noted that the scheme will reduce household electricity bills and contribute to Chhattisgarh’s energy self-reliance.

Statewide Impact and Long-Term Benefits

In total, 42 lakh consumers in the state are expected to benefit from the half electricity bill scheme. Along with the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity initiative, the combined measures aim to provide significant relief to households while promoting renewable energy adoption across Chhattisgarh.
