Champawat: Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday launched and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth ₹123.79 crore in Champawat, marking a significant push toward transforming the district into a model region of the state.
The event included inaugurations, foundation stone laying ceremonies, and the launch of key infrastructure, healthcare, tourism, and urban development projects aimed at strengthening connectivity, improving public services, and generating employment opportunities.
17 Development Projects Inaugurated and Launched
A total of 17 development schemes were announced during the programme:
- 8 completed projects inaugurated worth ₹27.79 crore
- 9 new projects launched worth ₹96 crore
These projects collectively aim to enhance infrastructure and accelerate socio-economic development in the region.

Jim Corbett Trail Inaugurated to Boost Tourism
The Chief Minister inaugurated the Jim Corbett Trail project, developed at a cost of ₹3.49 crore (₹349.98 lakh).
The project includes:
- Heritage-linked tourism development works
- Beautification and infrastructure improvement across multiple sites
- Promotion of eco and wildlife tourism in Champawat
The initiative is expected to strengthen Champawat’s tourism identity and attract visitors interested in Uttarakhand’s natural and wildlife heritage.
₹62.33 Crore Modern City Centre Project
A key highlight of the event was the foundation stone laying of a modern multi-storey parking and shopping complex (City Centre) in Champawat, with an estimated cost of ₹62.33 crore.
The project will include:
- Multi-level parking facility
- Commercial and shopping complex
- Urban infrastructure development to reduce congestion
Additional facilities planned include:
- Women’s technology park
- Modern library and knowledge centre
- Open gym and youth infrastructure
Major Push for Education, Women Empowerment and Agriculture
The Chief Minister announced several large-scale welfare and development projects, including:
- ₹257 crore Women Sports College for national and international-level sports training
- ₹58.52 crore Science Centre to promote scientific education
- Agricultural modernization and establishment of agriculture-focused institutions
- Expansion and modernization of cow shelters (gaushalas)
These initiatives aim to promote self-reliance, education, and economic empowerment across rural and urban populations.
Transport and Regional Infrastructure Development
Key infrastructure projects announced include:
- ₹237.74 crore Integrated Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Tanakpur
- ₹14 crore Media Centre in Tanakpur
- Residential housing for sanitation workers in Lohaghat
- Martyrs’ memorial in Banbasa
- Multipurpose ex-servicemen centre in Pati
These projects are designed to improve connectivity and strengthen facilities in border and remote areas.
Major Healthcare Expansion: MRI Facility Inaugurated
A significant healthcare milestone was achieved with the inauguration of an advanced MRI machine installed under CSR support from ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth at a cost of around ₹6 crore.
The facility will benefit patients from:
- Champawat
- Pithoragarh
- Almora
- Nainital and surrounding regions
Earlier, patients had to travel long distances for MRI scans, but this facility will now provide local access to advanced diagnostic services.
Additional Health Infrastructure
- ₹20 crore 50-bed Critical Care Block at District Hospital
- ₹11.71 crore diagnostic wing, parking, and operation theatre expansion
- ₹2.18 crore PHC in Amodi
- Nursing institute hostel (₹4.70 crore) with 129 beds
- Proposed paramedical college in Champawat
The government also reiterated its commitment to cashless healthcare under Ayushman Bharat and Atal Ayushman Uttarakhand Yojana.
Vision for a “Healthy and Developed Uttarakhand”
CM Dhami emphasized that “a healthy Uttarakhand is the foundation of a strong and developed state,” highlighting the importance of modern healthcare infrastructure in remote and border areas.
He also reiterated the state’s focus on balanced development across education, agriculture, tourism, and employment generation.
Religious and Cultural Tourism Development
Under the “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several pilgrimage circuits are being developed:
- Maa Purnagiri Dham
- Sharda Corridor
- Goljyu Corridor
- Maa Varahi Dham
These initiatives aim to promote religious tourism and generate local employment opportunities.
Public Participation and Dignitaries Present
The event witnessed participation from several prominent leaders and officials, including District Panchayat Chairperson Shri Anand Singh Adhikari, Municipal Council Chairperson Smt. Prema Pandey, Block Chief Smt. Anchal Bohra, BJP District President Shri Govind Singh Samant, MLA Representative Shri Prakash Tiwari, Tanakpur representative Shri Deepak Rajwar, BJP State Minister Shri Nirmal Mahara, along with other public representatives, officials, and dignitaries.
The development initiatives inaugurated and launched in Champawat mark a major step toward transforming the district into a model region of Uttarakhand, focusing on infrastructure growth, healthcare improvement, tourism expansion, and socio-economic empowerment.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed confidence that these projects will create new opportunities for youth, strengthen rural livelihoods, and accelerate the vision of a developed Uttarakhand.
